Mi. -V u■.■ iv and Sir Joseph Ward were p-esent and conversed with the men. Mr. Ala ssey congratulated them on the good reputation earned by all hands, and on behalf of New Zealand thanked them for performii.j:; their duty. He expressed the grateful thanks of New Zealand to the woiiilm of London for the noble work done am' ng New Zealand wounded. Sir Joseph Ward, supporting Mr. Masney'a remark:;, fa id he knew they would try to uphold New Zealand's honor and fight to the last. There could be no talk o£ any makeshift peace.
