Wellington, Last Night. \ ?cr ; :iv.r shooting and stabbing affraf took place on board the steamer Kaikoura, lying; «t tho King's Wharf, late 011 S:itii-fTay night (about 10,15 p.m.) It is nikged that John Marshall and Reginald Pierre, two seamen belonging to the crew, came back to the ship apparently the worse for liquor. They went, forward to the forecastle where another seaman (Gershoum Simmonds)' l va.s lying in his bunk, and Marshall and Pi'rre bi-ing rather rowdy when they cnine in Fimmoiuls remonstrated with them. They resented this, and a row commenced between the three men. It is alleged tnat during the disturbance) MaishaU drew a revolver nd fired two or '.hive shots, none of which, however, took effect, Simmonds wrested the revolver from Marshall's hand, and further seull'lirg took place between tha three men in i':e course of which it is stated that Simmonds produced a razor and used it on the other two. Both of the n;en were cut about a good deal. The men v.-ere parted, and the police telephoned ff'i*. Sergeant O'Halloran and Constable Murphy i;uiekly arrived 011 the scene. l)i. Henry was also called in and did what he eouid for Marshal! and Pierre, hut wounds were so serious that lie ton?;<!ae<l it advisable to take them both to the hospital.
