THE PEACE KITES. MEDIATION RUMORS FOUNDATIONLESS. AMERICAS NEW DREADNOUGHTS Received Oct. 7, 12.45 a.m. Washington, Oct. fl. High officials deny that America has taken, or intends taking, immediate steps in the direction of the mediation regarding the war. They declare that the many rumors current to that effect are without foundation. Mr. Lloyd George's interview showed clearly that-such a step would be unwelcome. Meanwhile, developments are being watched for an indication as to when peace proposals would he welcomed. Some interest has been caused by the announcement that Mr. Ford has summoned the secretary of the Stockholm Confrcnee to visit America; also in the notification that Count Bernstorff will pay a special visit to President Wilson on Monday. The new super-dreadnoughts will be 850 feet long, and have a 35,000 feet displacement, and a speed of between 32 and 35 knots an hour. They are expected to cost twenty million dollars each. EFFECT OF LLOYD GEORGE'S INTERVIEW. London, October 5. A correspondent in New York says the German Crown Prince's tearful attempt to besiege American sympathies utterly failed to produce a single emotion excepting scorn. The result must undoubtedly be attributed to Mr, Llovd George's admirably timed interview." Since the beginning of the war no utterance of a British Cabinet Minister has been received with greater sympathy.
