DISTRICT NEWS.
CARDIFF. (From Our Own Correspondent.)' The milking season being now in lull •wing has caused a lull in the social functions of the district. However, at a meeting convened by Mr. Don Cameron it was decided to arrange a farewell social to Messrs. L. Marehant and 6. Rogers, who will be home shortly on final leave. At least 23 Cardiff boys are away on active service. Several of these will never return, while many of the others have been wounded. The latest one to die a soldier's death was Harry Carley, who was reared in this district and whose parents and relatives have the sympathy of us all. Many of the farmers here are feeling the pinch of the war, for, owing to the scarcity of labor, they are obliged to work very long hours at high pressure in order to keep their farms going. The attendance at the school has so incrensed that eight more desks were required to seat the children. At the last meeting of the school committee it was decided to affiliate with the Stratford branc! of the School Committees' Association. The Patriotic Society are at present requesting subscriptions to provide Christmas cheer and colnfort for the boys at the front.
