AN ALPINIST'S UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. Mr. S. Turner, the well-known dairy produce buyer, lost himself on the mountain on Sunday. Mr. Turner has been, it is known, doing some climbing lately in training fov a project lie lias had in view of climbing Mount Cook during the coming summer. Mr. Murp'liy, caretaker of the Dawson Fulls House, stated that Mr. Turner, with characteristic energy, had decided to climb tlie mountain 011 the southern side, and, after going to "New Plymouth House., to return along the track. He had about 4000 feet to do in the for which distance it was necessary t cut steps. This he covered safely, makiiig pretty good time, and got down to the New Plymouth House. Darkue&a, however, overtook bin on the return journey! Anyone, who knows the track will not be surprised that 'lie missed it i;i the darkness. As he had not arrived at seven o'clock, Mr. Murphy set out to look for him. Finding 110 trace of him he rang up the secretary of tiie Kaponga Mountain Club, aiui several niembera went up to assist. They were all out the greater part of the night. Early next morning Mr. Turner was found. He \m quite well, and apparently had not suffered in the slightest by his night out in the tousli. He had, in the dark, gow down into olie of tlie gullies, and after endeavoring to get out, had gone up tlio mountain again to try to find his bearings.
