CHRISTIAN HUMILITY (?)
To the Editor. Sir,—l have noticed in your columns of late some correspondence of a decidedly acrid and undignified, nature, particularly so as some of the writers belong to the ecclesiastical section noted for Christian humility, according to Dean Rcgnault, whose sermon you went out of your way to serve up from a Christchurch paper. I think it is high time to let religions differences lie, as any man of common sense knows that there is no more so-called Christian humility in the Catholic than any other section of the religious community; and it only serves to set one against the other when other things of more import should engage attention. The phrase of Dean Tower's, "English Ihnis." is particularly ill-chosen, as most people have an idea that Hun is a wordVpeeially kept in reserve for the odious behaviour of the Prussian vandals; and coming from such a source- it savors somewhat of the "humility'' of the Holy Inquisition. It is to be hoped the correspondents will be more charitable in airing their views.—l am, etc., Kaiiriata, August 24. THE IRISH QUESTION. To the Editor. Sir,—After all, I don't think Dean Power or Messrs Wright, Wiggins or 'Reader'' will be able to settle the Irish question. They had better leave it to Messrs Asquith, Lloyd George and Redmond, and wait until they are sent for. I don't think, Mr. Editor, they will have long to wait, as newspaper is getting icavce anJ space is valuable.—l am, etc., i ANOTHER IRISHMAN.
