REPUDIATION OP A LETTER. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)' Hawcra, Last Night. A large and representative meeting of the Hawera Catholic Federation was held in the Catholic Schoolroom at Hawera to-night, Mr. J. Bartlett, vice, president of the Federation, presiding The following resolutions were carried unanimously, and with acclamation:— Regarding the letter in the Daily News of the 23rd inst., above the signature of W. A. Quin, we, the membcrs of the Hawera branch of" the Catholic Federation in meeting assembled, indignantly resent and repudiate the insulting personal remarks made concerning our esteemed pastor, the Very Rev. Dean Power, and the unwarranted reference to the temporary abandonment of the Faith which he and we hold dear, and that w* extend to the Very Rev. Dean Power our grateful acknowledgment of his eighteen years' assidious labors in our midst, featured as it has been by the personal dignity and ideals he has brought to his office and by his intense love and veneration ot Holy 1 Faith. (2.) That whereas no priest in New Zealand has done more in the pulpit, on the platform, and in the press to foster in the hearts of the Catholics of Taranaki and New Zealand, a love of our Holy Faith, we, the members of the Catholic Federation and of the Hibernian Society ip Hawera, who have been for several years under the Very Rev. Dean Powcr'n spiritual guidance, take advantage of the completion of his eighteenth year in Taranaki to show appreciation of his devotedneas by presenting him with a gold chalice.
