OBITUARY.

BISHOP W. L. WILLIAMS Naper, Last Night. Bishop W. L. Williams died of hearty failure at 7.30 o'clock to-night. (The Rt. Rev. William Leonard Williams, D.D., was born at Paitua, Bay of Island, on July £z, 1829. He was a son of William Viilliams, first Bishon of Waiapu. and was educated at St. John's College. Auckland, and Magdalen College, Oxford. He was ordained deacon in 1853, and priest in 1858. He was missionary for the Church Missionary Society at Poverty Bay from 1853 to 1894, and was appointed Archdeacon of Waiapu in 1862, and administrator of the diocese in 1870-7. He was Principal of Te Rau Maori Theological Colt lege at Gisborne, from 1882 to 1894. Canon of St. John's Church, Napier, from 1889 to 1894, and was consecrated third Bishop of Waiapu on January 20, 1595. He was a well-known authority on Maori lore.
