At the Borough Council meeting on Wednesday night the Mayor, on behalf of the Council, presented Mr. Olson (town clerk), who is going into camp at an early date, with a handsome wristlet watch", and, in a complimentary speech, referred to the thorough manlier in which Mr. 'Olson had always carried out his duties, and expressed the Council's high appreciation of his action in offering iiis services to his country at this trying time. Mr. 01>on, who was completely taken by surprise, thanked the Council for their liand-omo gift, ami expressed the pleasure it gave him to know that his efforts in the exercise oi his duties had given such satisfaction. At the same time he did not think it warranted such sacrifice from them. Tin watch was inscribed as follows: "Pre sented to E. Olson, Esq.. by the fnglewood Borough Council; l/S/10." At the Magistrate's Court on Friday the Magistrate gave, judgment for the defendant in the case Standish v. Thomson. There was a fair attendance a* the Town Hull on Fridav, the second anniversary of the war. The Mayor occupied tiie chair, and short addresses were delivered by Messrs J. Brown, 11. Trimble, A. Morton, and 11. Brown, after 'which th" Mavor put the, resolution re carrying on tlie war till the Allies were victorious.

The chairman of the Lighting Committee reports that the Council is tc he recommended to have new lights in the following streets: Hinau, Brown, Cut field, Eliot Miro, and Standish, and Rata Street east, between Hinau and Konini Streets.

The manv friends of Private R. F. Codd, son of" Mr. Ben Codd of this town, will regret to know that he has beer, wounded.

Messrs Arthur & Rowc, contractors tor the alterations to Mr. Newton King's mart premises, have commenced their contract. The alterations and additions are' costins a considerable sura, and when completed will add considerably to the appearance of that part of the borough.
