WORKERS' DWELLINGS.
To Hie Editor. Sir;—Tt is a matter of common knowledge that it is extremely diflieult to rent houses in New Plymouth just now, particularly houses of from four to six rooms. The Borough Council has lost some of its employees through this difficulty, and recent arrivals have been compelled to go into lodgings. AVith I l.he completion of the freezing works at Waiwakailio there will arise a demand for such dwellings, and probable developments at Moturoa will accentuate the need. [The first step is to make application on a special form to he obtained from the olliee of the Inspector of Factories, where designs for workers' dwellings may he inspected. The application lias to be accompanied by a deposit of £l, which is refunded if the application is not approved. On the application hems approved, an additional £0 has to be paid. If a number of applications are forthcoming it is probable the Government would, a s lias been done at Hawera, Manaia and Patoa, acquire a block of land and build thereon. An applicant may be male or female who is employed in work of any kind in manual labor* or whose earnings at the time of his application do not exceed £175 per annum, and who is landless.—Ed.] ;
