MR. RERDMAN'S WAY.

1 i .To tin* Editor. Sir, —"Mr. Herdman does not want in any way to interfere with the present privileges of tlie liquor trade. He describes liis way of cheeking the damage it does as "tiie traininji of the young people to exercise restraint." That is all very well, only we wonder what Mr. Herdman lias ever done in tliat way. So far as I know lie lias never raised liis voice or used his influence in the way of education of the young on the effects of alcoholic drinks, and the harm that mo often results from the use thereof. It he would even at this late date consult with the Minister of Education, and put his large experience and his professed zeal in the matter of temperance education into practice, wo should begin to think that he is in earnest, and means what he says. J'ut he will not do that. I!c is like many others, and only falls back on this pica for education when he has no other answer to give to those who do really want the young to he educated, hut also protected from almost unlimited temptations to drink. For humanity's sake I would call on Mr. Herdman and all his following to do something. If they can do nothing more just let them show the benefits (») that follow the use of alcoholic liquors and the errors of the teetotallers. —I am etc., CEO. TI. MAUXDEB.
