THE TRIAL OF RUA.
FURTHER EVIDENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Several witnesses gave evidence in rebuttal at the Rua trial to-day. Inspector Sheehan swore positively that he did not fire a shot at Maungapohatu. Witness did not carry a rifle and his revolver was never removed from its case. The Inspector also swore that before the police advanced to the marae he saw Constable Skinner exchange his revolver for a rifle. Cross-examined by Mr. Lundon, witness said that while on the niarae he kept Constable Skinner in s.ight, and witness did not see him fire a shot. It was not true that Native women were forced to sleep outside without blankets. Helyer Widdowburh Bishop, Stipendiary Magistrate, of Christchuroh,' gave evidence respecting interpretation of phraseology ascribed to Kua. Knbert William Dyer, Stipendiary Magistrate, gave evidence as to convictions which he imposed upon prisoner in the Whakntanc Voliee Court in lftll, and again in 1 1)1 a. Witness stated positively that he told Una that he was making a great mistake if he thought he could light the law, as he would find the latt' stronger than he.
