■<&— QUARTERLY MEETIXG. The quarterly meeting ; n connection with the Methodist Church i„ \,.„. p ]y . month was hold in the Whilelev Hall on Thursday. -Inly Oth. iiev. A. B.'Chappell. M.A., presiding. The finances, especially in view of weather conditions, were highly satisfactory, there being a credit balance to carry forward. Arrangements were made for Foreign Mission services and collections throughout the circuit, during tin- coming quarter. The chairman re])orted on the work of the [special committee set up to confer with the Fitzroy trustees on the question of n parsonage a t Fitzroy. The purchase of a suitable site had been approved. and a canvass had been commenced with a view to raMiijr the puivhus' money. A l,adio<' Guild liarl also been inaugurated at Fitzroy. Following upon the concert recently held in aid of the Featherston Camp Institute, further efforts, in which the assistance of the Sunday schools i« to be sought, are to be made so as to bring New Plymouth's contribution up |to about €25. Encouraging reports were received of ten days of mission services conducted at Kor'ito, the first of a series to be held throughout the circuit, and the meeting recorded its gratitude to God for the results achieved. It was resolved that Lower Kent Road be fiiscontinued as a preaching place for the present, and that the services allotted there be transferred to Korito. The chairman referred to the passing of Mr. G. J. Curlwright, for many years a faithful local preacher in the circuit, Mrs. .Johnstone, Mrs. Skinner, Mrs. Mynott. Mr. Edward Tliillnt. and Troopers C. E. Street and Arthur Morshead. It was resolved to send expressions of symlathy to the bereaved relatives., Letters of sympathy were directed to be sent to Messrs. IT. Spence and A. T. Moore, at present in the hospital; also to Mr. Walter Wilkie, in- view of his recent unfortunate accident. Special reference was made to the heroic courage and presence of mind of Mr. Wilkie displayed at the time of the accident. With reference to the approaching departure from New Plymouth of Mr. and Mrs. H. Rlsek, it was resolved to record appreciation of the services they have rendered during their years of residence here, and to extend hearty wishes for their future welfare. Several members spoke in cordial terms of the wholehearted loyalty to the church of both Mr. and Mrs. Black. A similar letter of appreciation and goodwill was directed to be sent to Mr. •I. F. Arnold, recently removed to Christchureh. Heartiest congratulations were extended to Mr. and Mrs. T. Clwtterton on the recent celebration of their golden wedding. The meeting resolved to show its appreciation of the service rendered to the church by the choirs throughout 1 the circuit by inviting .them lo a social even-' ing in the near future. A committee was set up to make the necessary arrangements. Acknowledgment was received from the Prime Minister of resolutions forwarded in connection with temperance reform.
