A SCOUT TREK.

(Contributed.) _ Once more "Pathfinder" has had to i give way to his young braves and go on "trek." •Saturday morning, at 8 o'clock, saw a goodly number of scouts and their fathers at the Technical School, with the necessary impedimenta for a wall; to "Taranaki," otherwise Mount Eginont. flie old trek enrt of the Wild Duck was brought out of its resting place ami loaded with blankets, tents, poles and billies. Tucker for the day was carried in haversacks, and the' ''old harfol" had arranged fo. the provisions being carted'up to the radius line. Commander Milne wished the bovs good luck, and at 8.30 they were oh". We walked and pulled the old cart "up hill and down dale" till we reached the Waiwakaiho, where we halted and had a small lunch, which lightened our load considerably. 'We eventually reached the radius line at 4 p.m., pitched camp, and learnt how to make a bed of fern. The result was not what one could wish. Sunday saw us making a forced march to the Mountain House in the midst of tropical rain, which continued long enough to keep us in the old house all the rest of the day. Our best thanks are due to the chairman of the committee, and to his lieutenant (Mr. Williams), for their kindness to us. Monday morning broke fine and clear, so that at 0.30 a.m. a start was made for the top. At 7 a.m. it was raining and a strong south-east wind prevailed. At $.30 it was still raining, with a gale, blowing. Wet through, we returned to the house, thence to our camp. We cooked a good feed, struck camp and left for home. Kind friends fed us at various points on the road, Xew Plymouth being reached at 5.50 p.m. No casualties.
