AUCKLAND NUN'S DEATH.
DROWNED IN THE WANGANUI RIVER Sister Leonora (otherwise known as Norah Clements), one of four nuns who recently went to Taumarunui for the opening of the new convent, was drowned in the Wanganui River, near Miinunui, on Monday afternon. The nuns celebrated St. Joseph's Day, the jubilee of the foundation of the order to which they belong, by a picnic at Manunui. After lunch, Sister Leonora, who, it is understood, was fond of rowing, pulled out into tho stream, but she lost an oar, and got into difficulties. Father Forde, a member of the party, went to her assistance, wading out into tho stream till the water rose to his neck, and pushed the boat inshore. The current, which was strong, overturned the craft, and by the time Father Forde had regained his feet, the occupant of the boat was floating some 300 yards down the river. She was seen to rise twice, but no sound was heard from her. Ten minutes later her body was recovered, but all efforts at restoration failed. Sister Leonora was the fifth daughter of Mr. J. J. Clements, of Remuera, and was twenty-two years of age. An inquest was Kc" -*■ tlm convent nnd the coroner returned a verdict or "Accidentally drowned," and commended Father Forde'a efforts to rescue
