A sensational case is being tried ill tlio Divorce Court, the King's Proctor opposing the divorce of Mrs. Eva Black, an Australian, from her husband, Horace Black. Mrs, Black was previously marned to one, Frank Austin, and was divorced from liim in 1905. The King's Proctor alleges misconduct by her with W. P. Delaforce, a myaterious Portuguese Jew, who disappeared at the beginning of the war, and hag >iow been proved to be a spy. The defence pleads that At. and Mrs. Black believed Delaforce to be a member of the English spy service. Delaforce sometimes left tins contain' mg plans and drawings, collected froni other agents in Britain, in Mrs. BUfik's rooms for safety. Delaforce was a dose friend of her husband, and she visited Berlin with him and went to Algeclras to assist Delaforce in his operations, receiving £2O monthly, allegedly fromtb* British Secret Service,-until she wai accused of being in touch with the Germans. Then the King's Proctor inter* vened, and she found that Delaforce Wad > an enemy spy. ' A curious episode was that of 1 Tcadinfc letters purporting to como from Colonel Sanderson, Chief of the British Secret Service, promising to interview the Proctor and remove any suspicions aroused by the Algeeiras incident.
