I SOLDIERS' DAY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, March 22. A large meeting of ladies and gentlemen met at the patriotic rooms yoster- : day afternoon to further the arrangements for "Soldiers' Day Fete," that is being held on the A. and P. Association (■'rounds on Easter Monday. His Worship the Mayor, who presided, said it was necessary that Stratford should endeavor to collect a. large sum to swell (he Wounded Soldiers' Fund. A function, well organised, should bring in a large sum and it was well for the public tp know that it was a town and country affair, and they needed the help of everybody. Mrs. Moon said the Ladies' Patriotic Committee would undertake the catering arrangements, and proposed canvassing the countryside for assistance in the way of donations of provisions. Mr. T>. J. Malone said the idea of the fete was to work it into a big thing. They needed help from everyone who could assist in it. The sports committee had suggested- a huge procession and other attractions, and it would take a good deal of working up. A committee, consisting of Messrs. Reader, .1. S. McDonald and firant were elected to assist the Ladies' Patriotic Committee. Lieut. Gray offered to put on military events, and he was thanked for his offer. Mr. Malone thought that thev might approach Inglewood and 'Eltham Patriotic Committees, and ask them to co-operate, and the local committee would undertake to return the compliment. Mr. D. J. Malone was appointed manager of the fete. Messrs. Bradley. Kirkwood, and R, Masters were appointed a Procession Committee. Messrs. Gernhofor, Shottcr. Dingle and Boon were appointed a Ticket Committee. Messrs. Kirkwood, E. Jackson. D. J. Malone, R. Masters, and P. Dingle were appointed an Advertising Committee. Mr. P.. Masters was requested to act as secretary. It was decided to invite the Premier and Sir Joseph Ward to be present at the fete if possible to give a patriotic address. RECRUITING COMMITTEE. The Stratford County Council met yesterday in conference with the local Recruiting Board and decided that both bodies should amalgamate. Mr. .). Masters was appointed chairman. The matter of making a systematic canvass of the district was decided on, and it was agreed to have a paid recruiter, if a suitable man can be procured.
