DISTRICT NEWS.
OMATA(From Our Own Correspondent). Like most other districts, we are badly in need of rain in Omata. The crops, especially turnips, are suffering severely from the lly, many being completely ruined. The milk supply at the butter and cheese factories is dwindling. It does not seem as if there will be a large winter supply. In spite of the dry autumn, farmers will liavo a record year. The prices for butter and cheese are phenomenal, the advantage being in favor of cheese. 1 am informed Hint the Royal Oak cheese factory paid out on the 20th inst. to suppliers on last year's working a final bonus of %d for butter-fat, bringing the total payments for last year up to 17% per lb of butter-fat. Surely this is a splendid price for a comparatively small factory. Mr. Locke, of Scaly road, has just disposed of his Jersey herd by private sale at the handsome figure of £lO per head. The manager's new residence at Hurford road butter factory is nearlng completion, and should prove a blessing.
