WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Yesterday. At tlie meeting of the North Taranaki Patriotic League on Monday night the Mayor called attention to the absence of one of its most regular attendants, Mr T. Buchanan, who, he regretted to say, had become an inmate of New Plymouth Hospital, pending an operation for appendicitis. It was resolved that leave of absence be granted and that a letter be sent from the committee expressing their hope for his speedy lV cavery. The Arapawa arrived at the wharf this morning from Onehunga, with a general cargo, including 40 barrels of molasses, a cattle food which is finding much favor in this district. When mixed with ordinary straw chaff, horses and cows are saiil to thrive well on it. Hopes have run high that there was going to be a good downpour of rain; so far there has been scarcely sufficient to lay the dust. Meanwhile, the milk supply is rapidly diminishing, and pastures are looking brown and bare. There appears to be a consensus of opinion among the weatherwise and otherwise that this is the hottest summer ever experienced in Taranaki.
