INCREASED COST OF SHIPS. By Cable.—Press Association —Copyright Sydney, March 7. Colonel Burns has returned from England, where he made inquiries with a view to additions to the fleet of Burns, Piiilp and Company. He says that the price asked for new steamers is prohibitive. The cost has doubled since three, years ago; the Admiralty is still taking up vessels; very few are building, and the constant losses result in neutral vessels reaping a rich harvest. - ' A TEMPTING OFFER. Melbourne, March 8. At the half-yearly meeting of the Melbourne Steamshio Company it was stated that one of the steamers could be sold to overseas buyers at a profit equal to that earned by the company's fleet in six months. -NEW SOUTH WALES WHEAT. Sydney, March 8. The Minister of Agriculture estimates the wheat crop at sixty million bushels. BAD PROSPECT FOR BAKERS. Sydney, March 8. Mr. Hall is surprised at the Commonwealth fixing the price of bread, and is confident that no business will make eight per cent, this year by selling at the proclaimed price.
