NEW PLYMOUTH QUOTA LEAVES. FAREWELLED BY THE PUBLIC. The men from the New Plymouth district included in the Taranaki quota, for the Fourteenth Reinforcements left for Trentliam by the mail train yesterday. The public was in strong force at the railway station to farewell the men, and patriotic music was provided by the Citizens' Band. In farewelling the men, the Dermtv Mayor (Mr. W. A. C'ollis) said they wen: making great sacrifices, but they had carefully considered the whole matter and had determined that they should do their best to assist the Empire in this time, of stress. New Zealand prided itself in its voluntary system, which had so far proved effective, but if the time should come when the response under the voluntary system was found ti be inadequate and compulsion had to be brought into effect, the men about to leave would be able to congratulate themselves that they did not wait for compulsion. (Applause.) In conclusion, he wished the men (iod-speed and a safe return and called for three hearty cheers, which were lustily given. The' men who entrained iiere were:— INFANTRY. C.
