OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Opunake, Yesterday. Changes are taking place here this week. Mr. Knell, manager of the Opunake branch of the Bank of Xew Zealand, has been transferred to Pieton. Mr. Knell lias been here some nine years and lias been a good citizen, taking' more than his sharp of work in several oi our local institutions, such as the Seaside Society, Tennis Club, and Horticultural Society. Mivßathhone, accountant of the Napier branch, has been promoted to manager of the Opunake branch. Following soon after Mr. Knell's departure will be Mr. (ireig, manager of the Opunake Sawmilling Company. Mr. and Mrs. Oreig were also good workers on the committees of local institutions. Thev are leaving here towards the end of the month. The Revs. R. Welsh and Tinsley will also be leaving here shortly. They have been here for some years and have made many friends, who will regret their departure. The annual autumn show of the Opunake Horticultural Society was held last Wednesday, and was very successful from all points. The vegetables and fruit sections were very well filled. There was a good display of cut blooms. In addition to the competitive entries there, were special exhibits by the Morshead Nursery Company, Duncan and Davies, and Mr. Gibson (liiverlea). The special exhibits were a show in themselves. The proceeds from the tea-rooms were dovoted to the Red Cross Fund, realising £4, and a sale of exhibits donated bv the exhibitors totalled £S 10s. Mrs. Phillips (Rowan) will very likely oe an exhibitor at Warea show. This lady competes in flower, decorative, vegetable, and preserve sections, and is a keen enthusiast.

TW horse fair on Saturday, held at the Club Hotel yards by the Loan and Mercantile Company, brought out n large number of horses. Good heavy draughts and spring carters realised marketable values, but hacks and weeds went cheap. At the Nursing Association meeting on Friday it was decided to hold a farewell tea party in honor of Mrs. Knell, Mrs. Clreig, and the Rev. Welsh, who are leaving the disetrict. The association has not yet obtained a nurse.
