Inglcwood, Saturday. | The social organised by the Red Cress ; committee eventuated on Friday night, irhe weather was ideal, -except' that it I,was a little too warm for dancing, but nevertheless, a most enjoyable evening was spent, and the result both from a pleasure and financial point of view was most gratifying to the ladies of the Red Cros.s committee, who have worked so hard for our boys at the front, The 3oor was in capital order, and the music all that could be desired. Mr. E. Henderson carried out the duties of SIC. in a most capable manner. The following vocal items were rendered during the evening, and were well received: Song, -Sir. Hynes, ''Fall In," (encored): song, Miss L. Laing, "A Perfect Day," with cello obligato by Sir. SI. Sutherland. Sliss Laing was in good voice anil did ful justice to the old favorite and was equally successful in her encore number, "Wake Up." Song, Sirs, llurnip, "That Was the End of My Dream"; recitation, Sliss Allen; song, Mr. Harlow, ''The Blue Dragoons" (encored); song, Sir. A. Matthews, "Left, Left" (encored). The music for the.dance was supplied by Sir. Stockman's orchestra, which is guarantee of quality, and the nimenis were played Iv Messrs Armstrong and -I. Sutherland. . The proceeds, which were made up as follows, must be considered very satisfactory indeed: Rpd Cross os, Mesdames Jacomb, Allen and Crossman, 2s (id each, Mrs. Messengers' Red Cross tea £1 15s, bread 2s, Sirs. Buckley 10s, SI. Pereival 10s, supper room ss, Sirs. O'Carroll ss, Sirs. Henderson (sale of flowers) 3s, other donations Hs 3d, social £ls los, total £lB 17s !)d, less expenses £1 7s 3d, net proceeds £l7 10s (id. It is worthy of mention that this amount brings the grand total collected by the ladies up to £287 Cs 2d for the past four months. The secretary of the School Committeed has been notified that the East End grounds will not be available for the combined school excursion on the oth of March, and arrangements are now being made for the breakwater instead. Sir. D. Evans, who has been appointed to succeed Sir. Stratford as headmaster of the school, expects to arrive to take charge on Monday.
