MEAT, VEGETABLES AND ICES. In ether ways people were able to contribute, and receive something in return. The Red Cross Mart was well stocked with a variety of articles for th» table, and the staff' of ladies 'in charge were kept busy throughout the day. Four sheep donated by Mr. Maunder, of YVestown, were auctioned at the Haymarket on behalf of the Mart, and the proceeds from the sale, added to the takings at the Mart, showed a total of £1" 1/s 3d. A capital means of raising money was provided by Messrs Sole Bros., who displayed a quarter of beef for a weight-guessing competition. Tickets were sold at a shilling each and the prizes were: First four, each a leg of lamb: next four, each a loin of lamb; next eight, a portion of lamb of the value of -2s fid. Mr. .T. R. THE FISH MART. A good idea was intioduced by the Fish Mart, and the satisfactory sum of £l2 10s was raised. A number or nm«tenr fishermen went out with some of the Moturoa crews in the early hours ol Saturday, but they met with comparatively poor sport! However, they succeeded in "cornering'' the market, ami consequently the price of fish was unusually high. When the fish was hioiight to town it was placed in a gaily decorated cart in charge of Messrs R. YY\ 1). Robertson. YV. Amburv, and L. Hoffmann. The sale was brisk throughout the morning, and in tlie afternoon a small quantity of cray-fish was quickly disposed of. The promoters of the Fisji Mart wish to thank Messrs J. and G. Brough. )!. l'rewin. and Smith for donations of fish, and Mr. Harry lli.fl'ord for the use of his motor car. The complete returns will be available towards the end of the week. COLLECTIONS ELSEWHERE.
