SOME INTERESTING STATISTICS. The estimated population of New Zealand, exclusive of Maoris, on December 31, IMS, was 1,102.825. The total was brought up to 1,105,207 for the Dominion by the inclusion of the Maoris and the inhabitants of the island dependencies. The excess of births over deaths for the year amounted to 17,016. The actual birthrate per thousand of the population was 25.30, the second lowest in the history of New Zealand. The lowest rate -j.12, was recorded in 18!)!). The total number of births registered during 1015 was 17,882. The number of deaths registered within the year was 008(1. The death rate per thousand of the population fell from 0.31 in 10H to 0.08 in. 1015. The rate of natural increase was 16.3 per thousand of the population, one of the highest rates in the world. The moderate birth-rate was more than balanced by Now Zealand's abnormally low 'death-rate. New Zealand suffered a loss rf population amounting to 11,085 by excess of emigration over immigration. The was due to the departure of trtops for the front.
