The harvest thanksgiving services in connection with the Methodist Church were conducted on Sunday last by the Ttevs. Featherston and Reader. The congregations were good, the sermons appropriate, and the offertories sliglit.lv in advance of those of Inst year. The choir, under the oonduetorship' of Mr. Martin Sutherland, sans suitable hymns at each service and rendered the' anthem "King of Kings" with good effect at the evening service. On Monday evening the produce was disposed of by nublic auction, Mr. I. Sutherland wielding the hammer.
The Rev. J. Featherston left by Tuesday evening's boat from Xew PlymonWi to attend the forthcoming conference in Auckland.
The State Advances Department has notified the Moa Road Board that the application for a loan for Lepper Road South has been entertained. This read 'has been in a most disgraceful state fur. I should sky, ;\t least ten year-, the cause being the consistent 'traffic of heavy timber waggons. The mill is now closed so the menace will be no more. Four years ago this was the popular route for the Mountain, and, I expect, will become as popular a s of yore as scon as the road is in passable order again,
The Patriotic Swimming Committee has forwarded a cheque for .Cl2 I.ls, tinresult of their late carnival, to the Y.M. C.A. Wounded Soldiers' Fund, Auckland. The old fire brigade station is tri be r( placed by a new buildina. Mr. Caldwell, on behalf of the brigade, has bunded over a cheque for £15(10 to the Borough Council, with n request for the new building.
The Red Cross Committee are arranging a social for Friday next, for which an excellent programme is bein" arranged. ™
