■ A LAXD DEAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Yesterday. In the Supreme Court Mr. Justice Cooper gave judgment in an action by John William Bines against Edwin Clements, claiming £3OO damages for alleged mis-statements in negotiations for the purchase by plaintiff of certain land in the AVhangarei district. His Honor held that the statements made by defendant were false and fraudulent for the purpose of inducing plaintiff to buy the property and were a material (factor in inducing plaintiff to buy. In ! his Honor's opinion £IOO was a fair sum for damages, and he gave judgment for that amount, with costs on the lower scale. THE ,; PROPHET " RUA. Auckland, Yesterday. The Star's correspondent telegraphs that a police party of three encountered Rua and a number of his bodyguard in the Urewera. Rua complained' bitterly that the police sought to imprison him for an offence in respect of which he had already served a sentence. He pulled off his coat, saying, "Take me if you can." When it was evident his followers had arrived the police withdrew.
