THE NEW FORCE.
WELLINGTON DISTRICT SHORTAGE TARANAKI WANTS 17 MEN. Tho mobilisatiflh of the 13th Reinforcements is still in progress, and it is too early yet to state with a fair degree of accuracy how the force is going to work out. The Wellington district (which includes Taranaki), is considered to have done very well. Its five groups went in with an infantry shortage of 37, and a total shortage of 50. The shortages in the various arms of the quota are shown in the following table:—•
All the groups experienced shortages, except the Hawke's Bay-Poverty Bay group, which sent eight men in excess of its quota. The deficiencies in the other groups were:— City and Suburbs 21 Manawatu and Wanganui 9 Wairarapa 17 Taranaki 17 The above figures were compiled on the day of mobilisation (Tuesday). Since then the city's shortage has been reduced to eighteen, and it is understood that another half-dozen Hawke's Bay men are on their way to camp.
