MEETING OF WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee of the Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor 'chairman), Crs. L. M. Monteath, J. Havden, A. H. Johnstone, W. A. Collis, F. J. Hill, E. Griffiths, J. T. Mannix, A. E Watkins, W. F. Short, F. E. Wilson, and J. S. S. Medley. An apology for absence was received from Cr. S. J. Smith. The dangerous corner where St. Anbyn Street meets Queen Street was referred 'to by Cr. Griffiths, who suggested a wider entrance into St. Aubyn Street should be provided. The Mayor explained that the matter had already been thoroughly discussed and it was proposed to purchase land at the corner, but the Council was unable to come to satisfactory terms with the owner of the property. The by-law limited the speed of motorists at comers to Bix miles an hour. After some discussion it was decided to instruct the engineer to report at what corners speed limit notices should be placed. Cr. Collis brought forward the following motion: "That the Mayor and Crs. Johnstone, Mannix, and Monteath, witli the electrical engineer, borough engineer, and town clerk be a committee to go into the question of re-arranging the new sub-station buildings, with the object of housing as many of the borough official departments as possible, the object being to reduce the probable future .expenditure in regard to the museum and municipal offices." The motion was carried.
