TARATA.
SHEEP DOG TRIAL CLUB. (From A Correspondent.) The eighth annual meeting of members of the Tarata Sheep Dog Trial Club was held in the Tarata Hall on Saturday, January 22, fifteen members being present. In the absence of the president, Mr. J. W. Westfield, the secretary, Mr. A. Corkill, was voted to the chair. The report on the year's working of the club showed that the net profits amounted to the sum of £l3 9s 3d. In addition to this the committee had purchased books, fencing posts, etc., to the value of £3. In the past the club had been fortunate in having three cups for competition, but after a nard fight lasting for some years, Mr. J. B. Hine's and Patterson Bros' cups had been won outright this year, and there was now only the cup for , maiden dogs left. Unless some good sportsman presents the club with another cup he would recommend the committee to procure one out of the funds, as a cup was undoubtedly a great draw at dog trials. The committee had voted £lO out of the year's profits to the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund, being all they could see their way clear to give owing to the uncertainty of the weather at the season for holding their trial, which was mostly wet, and one bad year would almost cripple their finances. Three of the committee had resigned, Messrs Thomson and Crozier having left the district, whilst Mr. A. Taylor had gone to serve King and country. He was a good sport and a willing worker, and their sincere wish was that he might win honors at the front, and that he might return safely. The balance-sheet showed receipts at £O3 2s Id, and expenditure £BO 2s 10(1. The season began with a credit of £3O 14 s sd, and ended with a credit of £34 13s Sd.
After a few questions had been satisfactorily answered, the balance-sheet was unanimously adopted. Mr. H. Sander congratulated the committee on their very satisfactory year, and on his motion they were unanimously accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Messrs Lambert, „ Topping, Drummond, Dowman, Waite, George, and Kolfe were elected a committee for the ensuing year with power to add two' more to their number. Mr. A. Corkill declined nomination as he could not see his way clear to devote the necessary time. Mr. J. S. Wilson was re-elected auditor. Votes of thanks to the auditor and the chair terminated the meeting.
