GILL STREET.

NEW STREET FORMATION. BOBOUGH ENGINEER'S SCHEME. At the meeting of the Borough Council to-night, the borough engineer (Mr. K. 0. Clayton) will submit an estimate for the cost of formation, metalling and soltarring of Gill Street, also for cost of formation and metalling only. His report says:—As Gill Street is of"great length and some sections are in fairly good order and other sections very bad, I have divided them as follows: Section No. I.—From centre of Currie Street to centre of Liardet Street. Length, 572 ft. Width between channels 33ft. Width of paths lift 3in. Cost to form, metal and soltar, £540. Cost to form and metal only, £435 3s. Memo. £lO5 less if bottom metal is not put down. This provides for laying a rough ston? foundation and (jin of metal on top. Paths are not tarred at present and are not provided for in above estimate. To lay the paths down in asphalt would cost £57 4s. To tar and sand them with two coats of distilled tar would cost £4O. Short section from centre of Currie Street to opposite Roberts' blacksmiths shop where present soltar ends. Length 17C feet, width 37 feet. Estimated cost of repair and soltar this length, £SO 4s. Section No. 2.—From centre of Liardet Street to centre of Gover Street. Length 310 feet, width between channels 33 feet, width of paths 11 feet 3 inches! Carriage way metalled and in very fair order, except strip on each side near channels. Paths not tarred. Estimated cost to metal as required and soltar, £32S !). To metal as required only, £l6l 12s. To lay the path down in asphalt would cost £9l. To tar and sand them with two coats dtstillcd tar would cost £6O. Section No. 3.—From centre of Govet Street to centre of Eliot Street. Length 1188 feet, width between channels 33 feet, width of footpaths 11 feet C inches. Estimated cost: Formation and metalling, £344 4s; soltarring would cost £213 las. To lay the paths down in asphalt would cost £ll6 12s. To tar and sand them with two coats distilled tar would cost £9O. Section No. 4.—Centre of Eliot Street to centre, of Hobson Street. Length 1108 feet, width between channels 34 feet (t inches, width of paths 10 feet on one side and 11 feet 0 inches on other side. Estimated cost: Formation and metalling, £357 Rs; soltarring would cost £220. To lay the paths down in asphalt would cost £l2O (approximately). To tar a-nC sand them with two coats soltar would cost £BS. Section No. s.—Centre of Hobson Street to end of Gill Street past Brown Street. Length 902 feet, width 00 feet. Remarks: Rough path on one side only, no kerbing or channelling done, narrow strip of metalling only in centre of road. 1 estimate this portion of Gill Street would cost £450 to construct in a permanent manner to a standard suitable for the requirements of the neighbourhood.
