BOROUGH COUNCIL

MORE ROAD SCHEMES WORK UNDER THE LOAN. At the meeting of the Borough Council to-night the engineer (Mr. E. 0. Clayton) will submit a schedule of loan works which require immediate attention, as follows: (Jill street from Huatoki Stream to Liardet street. Mael-ean and Hamblyn streets left in unfinished state. Cutfield Road left in unfinished state. Carrington Road, tilling, widening, metalling, etc. Kerbing the footpath Breakwatei Road. Kerbing and footpath Devon line from Waiwakaiho Bridge four chains. Tarring and sanding footpaths, Devon Street, and other important paths that are in a bad state of repair. Completion of Tramway Route and soltarring.

ELECTRIC LIGHT. The electrical engineer (Mr, H. Black) will report:—Alterations to the Transmission Lines have been completed from the Powerhouse along the Junction Road to Avenue Road, leaving not quite one mile in Avenue Road and Eliot Street yet to be done. The switchboards have arrived and are now being erected in the new substation. There is a good deal of work in this and all the men that are available have been put on to them so that we may be ready to supply current for tramway purposes as soon as the contractors require it. The pulley blocks ordered in May last have just come to hand. Fifty-four new connections have been put in during the past quarter, making a total of 1050. The Electric Light Committee reports: —That the matter of a Public Risk Insurance be referred to the Finance Committee for decision: that the application of linesmen for an increase i» wages be deferred until February next, when the matter of salaries and wages will be considered by the Council; that the application of Mr. Morey re sign on pole in front of his premises he referred to the Tramway Committee.

THE ABATTOIRS. The abattoir report for December, 1015, is as follows:—Slaughtered for local consumption:—Cows 100, bullocks 3G, calves 20, sheep 515, lambs 300, pigs lIS and one sucker. Tripes cleaned 118 and one set ox heels. Compared with the corresponding month of last year, thoy show a decrease of '2l cattle, nine calves, 52 sheep, 22 lambs, 20 pigs and IS tripes. Condemned three cows, one bullock and seven pigs. Slaughtered for export 30 cows, 22 bulls, two sheep and 40 calves, an increase of 13 cattle and 24 calves and a decrease of IS-t sheep. Condemned two cows and one bull. Fees due for the month, £I2S 14s Od. Rents due for the. month, £3 5s (id. Total £132 0s 3d, a decrease of £l3 9s Gd. FINANCE. The Finance Committee reports: That the Taranaki (N.Z.) Oil \\ ells hid. be informed that the Council cannot accede to their request to be relieved of their contract under which water is supplied; that Mrs. E. Hodges be informed that payment will be made in terms of the Mayor's letter dated October 7, 1915; that having received Mr. Skitrop's explanation re claim for fencing against Mr. Thos. Drake the amount be written off.
