BOROUGH COUNCIL.
PAST MONTH'S WORK. The Works Committee of the Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (chairman) and Crs. L. M. Monteath, J. n.ivden, J. S. S. Medley, W. V. Short, F. ,T. Hill, S. J. Smith, J. T. Mannix, A. E. Watfcins, and F. E. Wilson. Tlie borough engineer (Mr. E. 0. Clayton) reported;— Dam at Mangamahoe—A lot of work has been done under difficult conditions here with a view to getting at the seat of the trouble which was causing the serious leakage. I hope to be able to fill the basin in a few days now. While the menare out there I recommend that the fencing of the reserve be completed, where cattle are getting in, and sundfy other smnll jobs he attended to, Fencing at Reservoir.—l have made arrangements with Mr. Hstwke to reinstate the fence Between Mr. Weston's property ami the. reservoir site, as directed at last meeting. The distance is 14 chains. Scarifier on 'Borough Roller.—The scarifier recently obtained from Christchurch has been attached to the roller and .is employed in doing useful work, and it is quite satisfactory. I recommend the retention of the hired roller for a while longer, as there is plenty of work for both machines at present: The ratepayers forwarded a petition asT;ing for improvements to McLean Street, Fitzroy. The engineer recommended that the work should he done, and it was decided that his recommendation should be effect to.
