WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Friday. The breaking-up concert of the public school on Thursday evening was a most excellent one, and was much enjoyed bv the large number of people wiio attended. One good feature was that the programme was not too protracted, and parents were able to get their charges home in reasonable time. The first item on the programme "The Veteran," by senior pupils in khaki, was much appreciated. The juniors gave a pretty little song with effects "The Waterfall," and they well rendered their costume song, "The Fishers." For his patriotic recitation (quite a new one by | the way),, "Britannia," Master Eddie Nixon had to respond to a vigorous encore. The butterfly song and dance by Thelma Trim and Violet Harrison was well rendered and evoked much applause, botli girls being in good voice. "Sound and Color," a song by the tiny tots was very good. A squad of "Ten Little Nigger Boys" had twice to respond to encores. An exhibition of bayonet drill by some of {he boys under ihc newly appoirted assistait, Mr. Ilui'cr, was capital. The operetta, "The' Magic Wand," \vj.s exceedingly well riwiered, and the dressing and stage effects were particularly good. Thelma Trim and Violet Harrison sustained the solo parts very creditably, whilst the rest of the many performers were letter perfect, and no mistakes appeared during the rendition.

Trior to the conclusion of the concert, his Worship the Mayor presented prizes gained by (a) those who had not lost any time during the year, and (b) those who had not lost more than five half-days. There were 110 less'than 83 recipients, and had it, not been for sickness in families thi9 would have been considerably exceeded. His Worship congratulated the winners and told those who were not so fortunate this year not- to lose heart. He also promised a prize next year for a memory test. The singing of the National Anthem brought a successful concert to a close. The teachers are to be congratulated on the success, and deserve great credit for the manner in which they trained the scholars. A great deal of time and patience must have been devoted to the work.

The drawing for the cake presented by Miss Roberts took place at the school concert on Thursday evening, Hiss Millie Jury being announced the winner. The home boat, now loading will take some 1200 bales of wool, in add'tin to a fair quantity of meat and sundr'es.
