DISTRICT NEWS.
RAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Tuesday evening a farewell concert and dance was tendered to Mr. A. D. Fielder, who has been in the district for thirteen years and is leaving for the Auckland district. The concert was opened with a pianoforte and cornet solo by Miss Hughson and Mr. Bradley. Songs were sung by Messrs Illingworth, Maninng, T. Hughson Jnr., M. Hughson, and the Rev. Addenbroke, trio by Miss M. Hughson, and Messrs Hughson, and duet by Miss M. Hughson and Mr. T. Hughson (encored). Recitations were given by Mr. Manning and Miss Muriel ,Williams. Mr. W. R. Wright, the oldest resident in the place, waß in the chair, and spoke of the many good qualities of Mr. Fielder, and called up the Rev. A. Addenbroke to make the presentation, which consisted of a dressing case and a travelling rug. Mr, Arthur Chapman and Mr. T. C. Hughson spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr. Fielder. Mr. Fielder feelingly responded. "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," was sung, and supper was then handed around, being provided by Mesdames Wright, Wilcox, Knowles, and Dew, all being very old friends of the guest of the evening. The same ladies also provided the afternoon tea for the Wounded Soldiers' fund, and with a gift auction realised about £l4.
As to recruiting here, Raliotu lias never missed sending recruits. This time Trooper W. Gibson, eldest son of Mr. G. Gibson, and Private T. McKenna have gone.
