CHRISTMAS IN CAMP.

CONCERT TO RAISE FUNDS. Active steps are being taken by the ladies of New Plymouth to arrange to provide Christmas cheer for the men in camp, and the question of assisting the Mayoress (Mrs. C. H. Burgess) in this work was touched on at the meeting of the Patriotic Committee last night. The chairman (Mr. C. Carter) said that Mr. Freethey, of Frankleigh Park, had generousTy decided to throw open his grounds to the public next Sunday for patriotic purposes. Mr. Carter mentioned that the ladies were arranging to provide Christmas cheer for the men in camp, and he thought that if a concert was held at Mr. Freethey's place on Sunday a large number of people would patronise it, and a collection could be taken up, to be devoted towards brightening Christmas in camp. It was decided to accept the offer, and the chairman, with Messrs J. Gibson and N. and E. Allen, were appointed a committee to complete the arrangements.

The Mayoress yesterday received the following telegram from Mrs. Coradine, Mayoress of Masterton: "About three thousand are expected to be in camp on Christmas Day, besides the A.S.C. and patients in hospital. We will be very glad of your help with money,, goods, fruit, vegetables, plum-puddings, oakes, mince-pies, etc." Mrs. Burgess has already received donations of £4 in cash and promises of cakes.
