BOWLING.
TODAY'S BANNER MATCH. Hawera will this atfernoon play New Plymouth (the holders) for the Taranaki Banner, the mateli taking place on the New Plymouth green. The following will probably represent Hawera:—Messrs Foy, A. Robertson, Rev. J. R. Shore, Messrs Henson, J. Syme, Parkinson, Hollard, Robb, Hodge, Curtis, Tarrant, Spence, Crabb, McPhillips, Tong, Bates. The New Plymouth teams selected are:—C. Rundlo, S. Rundle, H. Ward, Hall (s); Fookes, Burgess, Firth, H. Smart (s); Goldwater, Luseombe, Harrison, Morey (s); Wood, Blundell, Medley, A. K. Smart (s). Play will commence at 1,15 p.m.
At the bowling match, East v. West, to be played on the New Plymouth Club's green to-morrow (Thursday) by teams picked from players of the three town clubs, for the benefit of the sick and wounded soldiers, Mrs. Wood has very kindly offered the services of her orchestra, which the special committee has been pleased to accept. The game will be 18 heads up, play to start at 1.45 p.m. sharp, and should be finished soon after 3 o'clock, when all players not participating in the match should be able to make up their own rinks. NOTES. Pihama defeated Manaia by 45 to 44. A touring team of four St. John's (Wanganui) bowlers visited New Plymouth and p'layed against the local clubs; defeating New Plymouth and Fitzroy, but. going down to West End. The recent spell of fine weather has made all the difference to the surface of •bowling greens, which are now playing with that keenness which bowlers so highly appreciate.
