IN THE WEST.
CANNONADE AT YPRES. FRENCH GENERAL PROMOTED. Amsterdam, Dec. 12. The Telegraaf states that there was an uninterrupted cannonade all day long on Saturday in the direction of Ypres. Paris, Dec. 12. It is officially stated that General Joffre has appointed General Castelnau to command a group of armies.
... ■ AIRCRAFT BUSY. WET AND STORMY WEATHER. Received Dee. 13, 10.40 p.m. London, Dec. 13. Sir John French reports: On Wednesday sixteen aeroplanes bombed the depot at Miraumont and the aerodrome at Hervelly and considerably damaged both. The aircraft returned safely. Our artillery breached a parapet at Wczmacquart and La Boutillerie, and caused fires at Cite St. Elie. Our bombers entered the German trenches at Neuve Chapelle, causing many casualties and returning safely. The weather is very wet and stormy.
