Among German military and diplematic officials the execution is now regarded as a blunder, with an unfavorable psychological result for the German cause. She was led to the courtyard and seated in a chair, but fainted and fell on the paving. The soldiers begged permission to shoot instantly, but the. officers wished to revive her. The men said it was beyond human endurance, and the officers permitted them to shoot. Only one bullet struck her and penetrated the brain.
