THE STRATFORD SHOW.
■SPLENDID ENTRIES RECEIVED. Ever since tlie launching, about five years ago, of. the Stratford A. and P. Society, the committee have worked energetically with the object of bringing their show to the forefront and they have admirably succeeded. Each year this progressive committee caters more and more for the comfort and convenience of- exhibitors and spectators who show their appreciation by warmly supporting the Society. It is, therefore, no surprise to lind that even in the present exceptional year, when farmers are considerably inconvenienced by the labor question, that entries are right up to last year's mark both a? regards quality and quantity, for siieh is the case. The cattle classes have filled exceptionally well. Jerseys and Ayrshires are numerically strongest, some of the classes having as many as eighteen entries, and in both these sections all the noted breeders are competing. In Holsteins, both Messrs Newton King and \V. I. Lovelock are strongly represented. In the dairy classes there are nine entries, including the winners at ITawera. The horse classes have also filled exceedingly well. There are six thoroughbred stallions competing, and the leading draught horse breeders of South Taranaki are well represented. In the competitions, a number of outside horses are entered. The ring competitions will he particularly attractive this year, a water jump having been placed in position right in front of the members' stand. This is the only water jump at a Taranaki show. A novelty event, in the shape of a potato race, has also been included. Entries of pigs and sheep are considerably above those of last year. Dog entries are also fully equal to those of previous years, all the noted breeders from the North Island competing. The Home Industries classes are a record. A great number of machinery exhibits and side-shows have been entered. The catering is in the hands of Dustins, Ltd., and the Stratford (Band has been engaged to ■provide the necessary music. The committee have made various improvements, and complete arrangements have been made for the, successful carry-ing-out of the show. All that is now needed is fine weather.
Yesterday was a particularly busy day at the -Show Grounds, which presented an unwonted scene of activity in completing the preparations for the opening today. Practically the whole of the stock entered lias come forward and is accommodated on the Show Ground, while there is plenty of green feed available. For People's Day to-morrow, splendid train arrangements have been made, so as to enable people from all over the province to attend the central show with a minimum of inconvenience, special trains leaving Hawera at 10.47 and New Plymouth at 10.50 a.m.
