DISTRICT NEWS.
TARATA. ('From Our Own Correspondent.) There is very little news from this district to chronicle at present, things being rather quiet. The weather has been very bad for shearing and settlers are delayed considerably with their ploughing, etc. I am afraid that what little crops are put in will be very late. Of course we are also feeling the effects of scarcity of labor due to so many of the boys having gone to the front. Fifteen that were constantly employed here having left. Several of our settlers have installed milking plants this season, so that there is every chance of our district progressing. We are getting an opposition blacksmith in the township and the shop is already partly erected. Mr. Sergei, Agricultural Instructor to the Education Board, gave a very interesting and instructive address in the Tarata Hall on Friday evening last.
