NEW ZEALAND'S RESPONSE. A FEW COMPARISON'S. »j By Telegraph,—Press Association. 'Wellington, N'ov. 23. Referring to the cable of the Commonwealth'* new offer of 50,000 men, Mr. Masscy says that Mr. Asquith, speaking on November 3, stated that Canada had contributed (1(1,000 men, Australia 92,000 men, and New Zealand 23,000 men. One reinforcement and two battalions bad since made the New Zealand number up to 31,000. On a population basis on the same scale Australia's proportion would be 130,000 and Canada's over 200,000. New Zealand's reinforcements at present wore 2600 a month and Australia* 9500. On a population basis Australia's would be 12,000. Mr. Massey say a he dislikes comparisons, and praises the achievement of all the Dominions. New Zealand's response had given complete satisfaction to the Imperial authorities, who had the best reason for knowing that New Zealand would respond to every call. In conclusion he congratu* lated Australia.

RETURNED SOLDIERS' GRIEVANCES', Wellington, Last Night. A deputation of invalided soldiers waited on Mr. Masscy to-day to represent certain grievances. They stated that they had been given leave and ordered to report themselves for medical examination on December 29. They asked: (1) That they should be giveq railway passes to visit their relatives; (2) that they should be allowed change of underclothing and uniform; (3) that they should receive ration allowances. They stated that they only possessed the clothes in which they stood, and' had to maintain themselves on their military pay. The soldiers stated subsequently that; they had received a sympathetic hear* ing iron the Prime Minister.
