STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Tuesday. Mr. W J. Crawshaw has received a cable from his son, Lieut. Vernon Crawshaw, informing him that he has been invalided to London. Private Ralph Doughty, a Stratford boy, who is serving with the Australian forces, has written to his people informing them that he has been promoted to the rank of corporal, and wishes to be remembered to Stratford friends. Stratford folk, despite the wet weather, turned out in force last night to say farewell to the boys leaving for Trentham. His Worship the Mayor addressed the men, and amid cheers, and bands playing, the train steamed out of the station. There was a large gathering present at the Catholic Church this morning, when a solemn requiem Mass was celebrated for four members of the church, Lieut.-Colonel Malone. Sergt.Major McGlade. Private Foley, and Trooper 0. M. Clean-, who have been killed in the service of the Empire. The Rev. Father Maples officiated, and the Mass wa,s chanted by the choir under Mr. T. Lonergan.
