OVER 50 SUBMARINES. WORK, OF THE GRIM GREY FLEET, Received Oct. 2, 12.20 a.m. Copenhagen, Oct. 1. The German Admiralty has not received news of forty-seven submarines, and it is supposed these have been lost. The real number is believed to be fiftyfour. SUBMARINES IN THE BALTIC. ACTING UNDER RUSSIAN DIRECTION. Received Oct. 1, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 30. In answer to a request for details of submarines in the Baltic torpedoing a German cruiser during the latter week of August, Mr. Balfour stated in the House that lie was unable to give anv information except that contained in Russian reports to the effect that British submarines had done good work in the Baltic, not as independent forces, but acting under the Russian Admiralty.
