ON THE BANKS OF THE TIGRIS. SUBSTANTIAL BRITISH SUCCIiSS. Received Oct/ 1, 9.30 p.m. London, Oct. 1. Official: Alter three days' fighting we dislodged the Turks from their positions on both banks of the Tigris, seven miles below Kutulamara. The northern defences were carried by a gallant assault. The Turks fought with the greatest tenacity, and had to be dislodged trencli 'by trench. The losses in dead were severe. The Turks fled to Bagdad. We occupied Kutulamara and captured 1650 prisoners. The enemy's trendies were elaborate, and extended for miles, with an extensive mine system. Our casualties were five hundred, mostly light wounds.
