The plot is po we .'fill and demands the attention of onlookers throughout. It is one of those rare photo-plays that are seldom seen in Xew Zealand and comes from the studios of one of America's foremost photo-play producers. Plan of reserved seats may be seen at Hoffmann's piano warehouse. THE EMPIRE THEATRE. A sto.'y of slum and society life under the title of ''Lilo' Louden'' 'is tile leading film on the picture programme screened for the first time at the Empire Theatre last night. ■ The subject was adapted "to the kinematograph by Mr. Harold Shaw, from the book of Mr. Bannister Menvin, and it has been produced by the London Film Co. in excellent style. The title role is played by Miss Edna Flugarth, whoso clever work was much admired by last night's crowd. Miss Hugarth is fast, coming to the front as a picture actress, and new plays in which s'ho appears will be eagerly looked for. The present drama gives her amplu scope as a home'ess. starving girl in the great, metropolis, and sin; Is splendid in the closing scenes, which require more than ordianry ability f(o achieve the best result. One of tlie principal supporting items is 'Tlogan's Aristocratic 1 Dream," a 'highly amusing Keystone comedy, hi which the now fan" Dili) Charles Murray scores heavily. There is always something new about the comedies in which Charles Murray appears, but they never fail to provoke hearty laughter from start to finish. The latest Is no exception to the rule. Another good comedy on the new programme is "William Henry Jones' Courtship." The Edison Company is represented by ''The Phantom Thief," a drama partly written by Mark Swan, and completed by Miss Mamie- Clement Moore, for a prize of 1000 dollars presented *>y the Daily Mirroi'. Other numbers arc': The latest "Topical Gazette."' and a charming Vitagraph scenic, "Picturesque California." Music is supplied by Mi's Ceorge. *
