GOOD PATRIOTISM.
C.J.C. GIVES AIL iP'KOFITS TO WAR FUNDS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchureh, August 13. A special general meeting of members of the Cnni.er.'i"! 1 " 1 ' lockey Olub was held this afterimoit"- •'" onsider the question of giving Hie ■--■. ve of the net profits of the clu'bafor, iiio financial year ending April 30, 1910, to the fund or funds connected with the war. Mr. AV. F. 31. Buckley, president of the club, was in the chair, and there was a very large and representative attendance of members. The president formally moved a motion to contribute the whole of the profits of the club for the year to a fund or funds connected with the war. Mr. F. H. Pyne, in seconding the motion, said that he was delighted to see a largo attendance them that day. Me hoped that there would be an unanimous vote on the question at issue. In England racing had been practically stopped, but lie (iid not advocate that here, as it would be disastrous to many people employed who could not do anything else. If they gave all their profits to a war fund, it would be a popular action, and would cut the ground from under a large section of the community who thought that all racing should be stopped. The average profits of the club for the last eight years had been, approximately, £400?) per year, and there was reason to -suppose that that sum, approximately, could be donated. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. Reid moved that, in any case, a minimum sum of £2OOO should be guaranteed to the war funds, and this"wa9 also carried.
