BOMBING OF COLMAR,
MILLOWNERS DEPORTED. Received July 22, 0.40 p.m. Paris, July 22. Travellers from Lower Alsace report that several bomb* oh Monday exploded on a crowded troop train at Colmar, with frightful results. Germany lias deported 140 prominent personages from Rouhaix to German v, chiefly big millowners, for refusing to work for the German army. AN AIR DUEL. FRENCH AVIATOR (SUCCESSFUL Received July 22, 51.1(5 p.m. Paris, July 22. A pilot of an Albatross narrates that he. saw a new type of airship, and at 750(1 feet -lip, when within a hundred yards, he opened fire. The German pilot was shot through the head and collapsed. There was another man, who threw up his hands at another volley, and then the aviatic overturned, arir>, and fell headlong. This was the fiftieth time he had pursued the bodies ae-o-planes. but the first time he had brought one down.
AVIATORS BUSY. LIVELY WORK IN THE VOSOES. Paris, July 21. A communique states: The enemy attacked onr positions in the forest of Apiernont. They were completely repulsed. There were lively infantr v actions in the Vosges, on the heights overlooking the eastern side of the Eecht Valley. We obtained possession of part of the enemy's defensive works, and made notable progress towards the crests. Thirty-one of our aviators yesterday bombed the railway station at Conflans, an important junction. Seven shells fell on the station, and a shell also struck an engine-shed. The aeroplanes accompanying our squadron put three aviators to flight. One of the enemy was compelled to descend hurriedly. Two aeroplanes again dropped bombs on Colmar station. President Poincare welcomed the wounded French soldiers from Germany, who returned under the mutual exchange of disabled.
"PASSPORTS FOR ETERNITY." A LANDSTURMER'S COMPLAINT. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) London, July 21. The Germans in Belgium are. having to attend lectures on history and political economy. A Landsturmer complained: "I am examining peasants' passports for eternity, and haven't seen even a dog fight; and now I have to go to school again."
