NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING-. There was a large attendance of mer.i----b-'v-i ;it the annual meeting of the New Plymouth Bowling Club, held at the pavilion last evening, Mr. Pern (president l occupying the chair. Tim annual report was read as follows.— In presenting the report for the past nine months, your committee congratulate the members on a successful season. The iinancial position, as will be seen from tin: statement submitted to this meeting, is rather 'better than at last annual meeting. The overdraft then amounted to '.€.")4 Ds Id. On the Ist of this month it was £27 10s 4d. But it must be remembered that, owing to the date of tlie annual meeting having been altered from September to June, the expenditure to be incurred during the next three months has to be taken into account. It is anticipated however, that on iSeptcmber ] next tlie overdraft will be about the same as it was on that date last year. The Taranaki Banner was won bv the We.it End clu'b, and hearty congratulations are offered t6 that club on its success. A team from our club visited Auckland, and the members of that team returned full of praise of our Auckland friends' hospitality. Tlie principal match played was that for the 1 Commemoration Cup, and this was woJi ;; by our team, after a stitT game. Several matches were played with teams round 1 the mountain, and all of these were ; much enjoyed by those taking part in 1 them. The club matches resulted as follows: Champion cup, won by Mr. 11. Smart: handicap pairs, won by Messrs A. K. ■ Smart and T. Avery; handicap singles, won by Mr. E. Bary, with Mr. A. K. • Smart as runner-up. 1 The thanks of the club are due to Messrs Ponn, Perry and Chancy, who ' presented trophies * for the "cup" and ' handicap singles. The club is specially indebted to Mr. Luscombe for the great care and attention he has given to the green. I The report and balance-sheet were ■ adopted. ; ELECTION OF OFFICERS, i Officers for the ensuing year were then' [ elected as follows:—President, Mr. M. ■ Eraser; vice-presidents, Messrs Luscomhe and Murcy; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Ewing; auditor, Mr. .J. S. S. Medley; delegates to the Taranaki centre, 0. N. 'Firth, A. Smart, and M. ; Fraser; club ' committee, Messrs- U. Cock, A. K. Smart, W. Ilnll, 1). K. Morrison, W. J. Penn, K. : Barry, sole selector, Mr. A. K. Smart. An honorarium of ten guineas was , voted to the secretary, and a bonus of, £5 to the caretaker. ( ■BANNER, COMPETITION. With regard to Banner matches the chairman proposed: 'That in the opinion of the New Plymouth Bowling Club the Banner competiou be a challenge competition, the minimum number of rinks to be three, and matches to be played on the defenders' green. At least a week's notice should be given of a challenge, and the club's delegates to the centre be instructed to vote accordingly. This was seconded and carried. THE MAT. The chairman said the Dominion As sociation had decided to circularise the various clubs on the two feet on the mat rule, and he moved: "That in the opinion of the New Plymouth Bowling Club the two feet on the mat rule should be rescinded, and a new rule substituted providing that a player in preparing to deliver a bowl shall have both feet on tlie mat, but that in the act of delivery he may step forward provided he keeps one foot on the mat until the bowl is actually delivered." This was carried unanimously. PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The chairman then presented a number of trophies won during the past season: —Championship cup, Mr. 11. Smart; handicap pairs, Messrs A. K. Smart and T. Avery; handicap singles cup,- Mr. Barry; runner-up (handicap singles), Mr. A. Smart. The prizes were presented by the club, Messrs Perry, Chancy, and Penn. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the ladies, press, wardens, retiring committee, and president. A WINTER CAME. Yesterday afternoon an enjoyable game of bowls was played on Mr. R. Cock's private green at Overdale, which was in tine order, and which it is the intention of Mr. Cock to throw open periodically throughout tlie winter. At the conclusion Mr. W. N. Ewing, on behalf of the bowlers who participated in the game, thanked Mr. and Mrs. R. Cock for their hospitable entertainment.
