DISTRICT NEWS.

PUKEARUHE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

A very sociable gathering took place J in our schoolroom on Friday, May 28th, | the occasion being a social to welcome Mrs. Andrew Lorrenson to the district. Cards and music were indulged in until supper time, when Mr. A. R. Davis was called upon to present, on behalf of the' residents of the Ptikearuhe and Mirni districts, as a wedding present to Mr. and Mrs. Sorrensen, a handsome barometer and a pair of silver vases. After Mr. Davis had extended a welcome to Mrs. Sorrensen on behalf of the resi-.l dents, Mr. Sorrensen, in a few we'll i chosen words, thanked the donors for their handsome present. The musical part of the programme consisted of songs given by Messrs G. Martin, G. S. Evans, H. Wells, S. Martin, A. R. Davis Mrs. J. W. H. Martin, Mrs. G. S. Evans, and several young girls. Mesdames Cartwright and Martin supplied the music. After supper the room was cleared for dancing, which was kept up till the small hours of the morning, Mr. G.. Martin aeting as M.C. Mr. W. J. Bowman, who took a leading part in arranging everything, ib to be congratulated on its success.

Our milking season is fast drawing to a close, and everyone is talking about where they are to spend their holidays. Mr. J. W. Martin is working hard in the interest of tne new freezing works, and we feel sure that if the permanent directors of the company are of the same class as Mr. Martin the shareholders need have no fear as to the result.
